Q&A with Ron Dylnicki
Senior Art Director
When did you realize you were artistic?
When I was very young, I painted a fresco on my parent's living room ceiling. Actually, I knew I could draw better than most when I was pretty young. By the time I was in high school, I knew I wanted to go to school to eventually get a position at an advertising agency.
Do you prefer designing traditional or non-traditional advertising?
The traditional skills I learned early on help to make me the designer I am. A lot of designers today don't know how to snap a rule and don’t pay attention to details. Detail is what this business is about and if you fail on the little things, it will always catch up with you. This industry is evolving very rapidly, so being open to new ideas and staying aware of new technologies is also extremely important.
What project have you worked on that you are you most proud of?
There have been quite a few. Orlin & Cohen has been the most fun for me, as of recent, with the development of a new website and a new print ad campaign.
Do you play any sports in your free time?
I have played softball for the past sixteen years and recently stopped playing due to a shoulder injury. I have enjoyed snowboarding and golf. Not sure if you can get two sports on further ends of the spectrum. I also like surfcasting. Can you call that a sport?
Describe your typical weeknight at home.
I usually like to spend some time unwinding in the yard or playing with the kids. My wife and I enjoy watching Lost and Fringe; otherwise, we are on the computer checking Facebook or doing some sort of work.
Rumor has it you like brownies?
I love brownies. It’s usually a rite of passage for any intern. Brownies have to be made for the studio. A few years ago, we had an intern who baked us brownies and I thought, let’s keep this going. You would be surprised how many people are freely willing to bake brownies. It’s like they have to prove that they make the best brownies.
