Q&A with Neil Esposito
Associate Creative Director
How would you describe the art department to a total stranger?
We’re like the Yankees during their dynasty. (Sorry, I couldn’t resist). Rick is Joe Torre (he knows who to utilize for each project and situation). Each artist plays their “position" extremely well making each project a true “team effort”.
Did you always know you wanted to be an artist?
After I realized that playing shortstop for the Yankees was a pipe dream, being an artist was a close second. I started drawing at an early age. As I got older and realized that I can actually pursue a career as an artist, I thought “how cool is that?” I still find myself out with friends drawing pictures on tablecloths with crayons. Although trying to explain what I do to family and friends is always tough. I get a lot of “so what did you do on this?” or “so how do you draw on the computer?”
Are your creative juices flowing more at the beginning of the day or the end?
I would have to go with morning, definitely. In fact, the days I get in really early, I can get a day’s worth of design done before there’s a line at the coffee machine. I find that the best designs come together when you can really sink your teeth into them and focus... and more often than not, that happens way before 9 a.m.
What was the last concert you saw?
U2. The best band in the world – at Giants Stadium. Totally awesome (except for the 2-1/2-hour ride home).
If you could say anything to a Red Sox fan what would it be?
Babe “F’in” Ruth. Bucky “F’in” Dent. Bill “F’in” Buckner. Brett “F’in” Boone… and if that’s not enough, we still got you by 20 World Series.
What is your biggest pet peeve?
“Quitters.” You know when you have one of your socks that keeps falling down all day and you spend half your day pulling it up… I hate that.
