Q&A with Henry Luhmann
Director of Production Services
What is your favorite part about being Production Manager?
I enjoy collaborating with our artists, account team and outside vendors to produce great work while balancing design, budget and schedules. At Austin & Williams, whether it’s a margarita or full blown marketing campaign, the results are always “top shelf.” The whole process of creating breakthrough sales pieces, from development thru delivery that command attention and generate the desired response for our clients, continues to be exciting.
Tell us how the production process has changed over the last 10 years.
New coatings, finishing techniques and print presses facilitate faster turnaround to help keep pace with today’s “I need it yesterday” requests. Micro or “one-to-one” marketing is gaining momentum. By utilizing variable data presses and available customer information, high-quality printing can be produced where each copy is tailored to a specific recipient for improved response rates.
What talent do you wish you had?
I wish to “master” the blues harmonica.
If you could buy any car you wanted, what would it be?
One that would transport me instantaneously to my destination with a touch of a button.
Describe your perfect weekend getaway.
Manhattan with my wife with a nice room at the Marriott Marquis, upper level, overlooking Broadway, in Times Square. Dinner at Ruby Foo's before a show, Fuerzabruta (off Broadway) on Friday night… On Saturday, ferry to the Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island for a visit, Acqua Restaurant and Wine Bar in South Street Seaport for dinner, drinks at The Otherroom, and/or “late night” live music at Small’s Jazz Club in the West Village… The Intrepid Museum on Sunday morning, a “picnic” lunch on the lawn in Central Park behind the Metropolitan Museum of Art, followed by a quick walk through the museum to view new exhibits.
Your favorite beer?
Beck’s goes with everything, but I will select Hefeweizen (Belgian), Dos Equis (Mexican), Peroni (Italian), Sapporo (Japanese) or Mythos (Greek) to complement the cuisine.
