Long Island, NY - Rick Chiorando, chief creative officer at Long Island-based Austin & Williams, a leading New York strategic advertising and marketing agency, has been named a Director for SUNY-Farmingdale State College's School of Visual Communications Advertising Advisory Board. The Advisory Board is composed of advertising industry professionals who meet regularly with the School's academic team to ensure that its programs and curriculum are up-to-date - ensuring that graduates are well prepared to enter the field and meet market needs.
Mr. Chiorando, who also serves as Vice President of the Long Island Advertising Club (LIAC) - the region's largest and most celebrated advertising and marketing association - is a strong proponent of his industry's partnering with higher education to promote career opportunities for local students and satisfy the recruitment requirements of local agencies. Just this past spring, he led a very successful initiative, LIAC's "Intern Career Advancement Program" (ICAP), which included an event at SUNY-Farmingdale State College. The event was an opportunity for local college students to secure internships, for creative freelancers to create new relationships and business opportunities, and for area ad agencies and corporate marketing departments to recruit new talent.
To his new role as a Director of the Advertising Advisory Board, Mr. Chiorando brings strong industry credentials and a proven track record within the advertising and marketing sectors. Since joining Austin & Williams in 2001, he has been an integral part of the agency's steady growth and successful branding, direct marketing, new and traditional media campaigns across diverse industries. This success is evident in the agency's distinction as one of Long Island's most awarded agencies. In 2008, Austin & Williams won a total of 72 awards, including 11 of the most coveted "Best in Category" BOLI statuettes. The agency also successfully competed against 14,000 global entries in the international Telly Awards competition, winning three prestigious Telly Awards - the equivalent of an Oscar in the advertising industry.
Along with his SUNY-Farmingdale State College and LIAC affiliations, Mr. Chiorando is a member of the American Association of Advertising Agencies (AAAA), the national trade association representing the advertising agency business.
An active member of the local community, Mr. Chiorando supports many not-for-profit groups, including local food banks and children's causes. He formerly coached his daughters' soccer teams – leading the Smithtown Kickers to a state championship.
Mr. Chiorando holds a Bachelor of Science in Advertising from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He currently resides with his wife, Eva, and their daughters, in Glen Cove, NY.
Based on Long Island, New York, Austin & Williams is a full-service marketing and advertising agency specializing in research-driven, results-oriented campaigns for clients in ultra-competitive environments such as health care, financial services, higher education and hospitality.
