Blog World NYC 2011: Day 1 Recap
After very full day of sessions, panels and keynotes I'm exhausted (including Blog World's first track dedicated to mobile). The sessions were packed with great information and I met some great people as well. Here are some of the highlights.
When brands begin developing a social media strategy, they often are
unaware that some employees have already started using social media on
behalf of
the brand. In many cases, no one realizes that these profiles even exist
until after a social media strategy has been developed. While a gut
reaction might be to think that these employees have done something
wrong or wasted
valuable time and resources, their online presence could actually
provide powerful insight
into your brand's future in social media.
I'm always impressed (and frankly, sometimes a little irked) by
people who seem to have an endless supply of blog topics. I don't happen
to be one of them. But, I am trying, and hopefully getting better at
it.
Foursquare is a location-based social network that motivates its users
to get out and explore a city using three basic concepts – loyalty,
encouragement and discovery. In January of 2011, Foursquare stated on
its blog that the company grew 3,400%. That's not up to Facebook's
numbers, but the platform has made a place for itself in the social
media world and has a dedicated base of users around the globe -
Foursquare is reportedly nearing 7 million users. Now that it has been
around for a while, we were curious to discover what influences users to
participate.
